Car smashes into Sydney business after collision with truck

A woman has been taken to hospital after her car plunged into the wall of a small business in Sydney's west.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Parramatta Road near Bold Street in Granville at 2am today, after a Toyota collided with a truck.

The Toyota then travelled off the road, through a petrol station and into the external wall of a small business called IP Vision.

The business sells security cameras, so the incident was caught on CCTV from several angles.

The female driver of the Toyota, aged 50, managed to escape the car while a nearby person ran over to help.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck, a 36-year-old male, realised his fuel tank was leaking and called Triple Zero.

Firefighters arrived and drained 600 litres of diesel from his tank, Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Steven Brown said.

"There was a semi-trailer that had been side-swiped and it had a ruptured fuel tank...fuel was leaking from that tank," he said.

The petrol was funnelled into three hazmat bins.

They then turned their attention to the Toyota and debris.

"The rescue crew used tools [such as] power saws and winches to sort of cut the bricks away from the car and then pull the car out of the wall," Brown said.

The shop owner, David Arabie, is now facing a large clean-up bill.

"Probably $30-$40,000 minimum, unfortunately [there's a] one in a million chance [that this] can happen, but it happened.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment.

The truck driver was not injured.

Inquiries into the crash are ongoing.
