A 70-year-old man is in a critical condition after being injured when a ute hit a bus stop in inner Sydney.

He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital after the vehicle slammed into the stop near Victoria Park on Broadway in Glebe this afternoon.

Three lanes of Broadway are blocked after the crash and motorists should avoid the area. Nine

"Next minute the red ute hit into the bus stop & I just saw a man wearing a blue shirt fly about maybe five or six metres in the air," a witness told 9News.

Another man is in a serious but stable condition at North Shore Hospital after the accident, while another was taken to Royal Prince Alfred for non-life-threatening leg injuries.

A male driver, who had to be cut out of the ute, was taken to St Vincent's Hospital for treatment for minor injuries and mandatory testing.

The red ute was wedged through the bus stop, and a clean-up operation closed off that section of road.

"It was a highly emotional scene - our paramedics are out there trying to save patients & this is confronting for any paramedic to arrive at a scene with multiple patients," NSW Ambulance Superintendent Katherine Rallings said.

Motorists were diverted from Parramatta Road at Broadway, as only one westbound lane was open at City Road.
