Shocking footage has revealed the moment a car slammed through a fence, smashed into a parked van and then burst into flames in Melbourne.

The car was captured on CCTV speeding down Leonards Street in Burwood last night.

It crashed through the fence and into the van with enough force it tipped the vehicle on its side.

Emergency crews were called to the scene just after 10.30pm.

"It is believed a green Honda hatch-back, travelling south on Renown Street, crashed into a van parked in a driveway on Leonard Street," Victoria Police said.

Initial reports said that the car crashed into the house, however the CCTV footage confirms the vehicle drove through the low brick fence at high speed, then came to halt at a 45-degree angle on top of a van in the driveway.

Paramedics assessed the driver, a 26-year-old woman, and she was taken to Box Hill Hospital for observation.

An investigation is underway.
