A car has crashed through a Gold Coast hospital foyer, injuring six people.

The car ploughed through glass windows and into bystanders at Gold Coast University Hospital on Monday morning.

The driver and five other people were injured.

Gold Coast Health Services chief executive Ron Calvert said they were all stable after being treated in the emergency ward.

"We're dealing with the aftermath in terms of patients and relatives and staff who have been affected by the incident, whether they've got loved ones who have been hurt or are just generally traumatised," he told reporters.

Fire crews and paramedics responded to initial reports people were trapped in the car.

"We obviously didn't do much because they were already in the hospital," a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman told AAP.

A police spokesman said someone in the car, presumably the driver, reportedly had a pre-existing medical condition.

Investigations will determine whether that might have played a role in the incident.
