Car and motorcycle collide on Sydney's northern beaches

A motorcyclist has been taken by helicopter to hospital after a collision with a 4WD at Brookvale, which has caused traffic chaos.

The accident took place on Pittwater Road, just past Winbourne Road, which is near the Warringah Mall shopping centre, at 4.40pm.

The male motorcycle rider was loaded into a Careflight helicopter to be taken to Royal North Shore hospital for further treatment.

Northbound drivers were being diverted to Sydenham Road and Mitchell Road.

Drivers were advised there would be no right turn onto Pittwater Road from Winbourne Road, and no left turn from Old Pittwater Road on to Pittwater Road, while the crash scene remained in place.

Bus travellers were advised northbound services would be delayed by up to 15 minutes.
