People hit with capsicum spray as police break up large Sydney party

Two officers were injured and capsicum spray used as police attempted to break up a large party in Sydney overnight.

Police were called to an abandoned industrial area on McPherson Street in Botany Bay at about 10.30pm where about 1000 people were attending a party.

Citing safety concerns, officers attempted to close down the party with the help of the riot squad.

Most people moved on peacefully, however, a number of them allegedly threw glass bottles at officers, prompting police to use capsicum spray.

One police officer was hit by a broken bottle and sustained cuts to his head.

He was treated at the scene and then taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital.

A number of partygoers were also treated at the scene after being sprayed.

A 26-year-old woman was arrested at the scene after allegedly assaulting another officer.

The investigation continues.
