A two-year-old girl has died in a fire that destroyed a home Lithgow in the New South Wales Central Tablelands this morning.

Emergency crews were called to the Castlereagh Highway, Capertee, at 8am to respond to reports of a house fire.

Upon arrival, crews found a structure fully engulfed.

Police confirmed two children, aged four and one, a 44-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman escaped the house and were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

A woman is being treated to burns to her hip.

Police have recovered the body of a third child, a two-year-old girl, who died in the fire.

Police and fire investigators are forensically examining the scene, with the cause of the fire unknown at this stage.
