Cannabis crops found inside Caroline Springs home gutted by fire

Cannabis crops have been found in a house which exploded in flames in Melbourne's west.

Police and emergency services were called to Cleland Way at Caroline Springs after a blaze ripped through the property just before 6am.

Video obtained by 9News shows the house completely gutted by fire.

"Hurry get over the fence now," said a panicked voice in the video.

It is believed the fire erupted in the garage, before collapsing the roof.

Four people, including three women and two men, escaped unharmed after evacuating to the back yard.

But two cats died inside the home.

A dozen cannabis plants were later unearthed in the ensuite of a bedroom.

"Police discovered what is believed to be a hydroponic cannabis crop inside the house," a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

A woman was reportedly in tears when police took her away for questioning.

The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.
