Canberra looks to dance in the new year
Canberrans can rock out for free to celebrate the new year with Eskimo Joe and fireworks.
But whatever's on the bill, police want people to ensure they have a definite plan for the night.
"We're planning on a busy night tonight and our message for the public is to make sure that you plan your night tonight as well," Acting Superintendent Melissa Bushby said on Wednesday.
"Make sure they know who they'll be out with, how they'll get home and that people know where they'll be."
Tens of thousands are expected at the main celebrations in Canberra's city centre, where Perth rock band Eskimo Joe joins local acts for a free concert from 7pm.
The ever-popular Bass in the Place dance party will kick off in nearby Garema Place at 9pm, shortly after the first fireworks display.
A second pyrotechnics display at midnight will welcome 2015.
