Canberra GP avoids jail after groping, kissing patient

A Canberra doctor has avoided jail time after groping and kissing a female patient three times in the one consultation.

Dr Ammar Dhaimat, 40, was today sentenced to nine months jail for committing two acts of indecency on Anzac Day last year, the Canberra Times reports.

But the sentence was immediately suspended after he entered a one-year good behaviour order.

The woman was treated by the Belconnen GP over a two-month period when he gave her vitamin B12 injections because she was a vegan.

She said Dhaimat was overly friendly and gave her his private mobile number three times.

The woman said the doctor tried to kiss her on the mouth when she was receiving her injection but she turned away just in time.

He then squeezed her bottom and kissed her on the lips a second and third time.

Supreme Court judge, Justice Burns, told the doctor he "should've known better".

He has since been suspended from medical practice.
