Two men rob Sydney supermarket posing as police officers

Police are hunting for two men who claimed to be police officers in order to rob a supermarket in Sydney’s south-west.

Shortly after 7.30pm yesterday two men entered a supermarket on Beamish Street in Campsie, where they approached a 32-year-old worker and claimed to be police officers.

The pair produced identification claiming to prove their legitimacy, before demanding money from the man.

When the store worker refused, the men struck the employee in the face before stealing his gold chain.

The men left the store and were last seen walking north on Beamish Street.

Witnesses who saw the altercation flagged down real police patrolling nearby, who established a crime scene at the supermarket for forensic examination.

The employee hurt in the altercation was treated by paramedics for a facial laceration and taken to royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Police are now appealing to the public to help identify the two men, armed with descriptions provided by witnesses.

The first man is described as being of Middle Eastern appearance, approximately 30 to 40 years old and with short dark hair.

The second man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, mid 30s, and having blonde hair that was tied up in a bun at the time. He was wearing a suit and sunglasses at the time.
