Campers capture dramatic video of Fraser Island fire as blaze continues

Fleeing campers on Queensland's Fraser Island have captured dramatic video of the bushfire burning on the World Heritage listed site.

The mobile phone footage shows a wall of thick smoke rising from the fire that's been burning for six weeks.

The fire is continuing to edge closer to Kingfisher Bay Resort, with backburning conducted just 200 metres away from the business.

"We're doing everything we can, in conjunction with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, to keep it as far away from Kingfisher as possible," Queensland Fire and Emergency Service Chief Superintendent James Gill said.

"That's working at the moment, however it depends on what the winds do over the coming days and weeks."

New fire crews from Maryborough arrived on the island today so others could take a much-needed break.

"This is actually change over crew," Mr Gill said.

"The other crews have been there for just on a week now so they will come home for a fatigue break."

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said a "full review" will be conducted into the bushfire.

The emergency has led to the evacuation of the island, forcing tourist operators to pause their businesses after recently reopening following the coronavirus shutdown.

"It's understandable those who love the island want to be assured that everything that could be done to protect it has and is being done," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"That's why I can confirm that the Inspector-General of Emergency Management has been instructed to conduct a full review.

"He will examine all aspects of preparedness and response."

The fire has now burned through 76,000 hectares of bushland after it was sparked by an illegal campfire.
