Friend of Aussie man missing for over a month in Albania opens up about his disappearance

A friend of an Australian man missing in Albania has become emotional, as she opened up about his disappearance as the search for him enters its 39th day.

Cameron Twiss from Burnside in Adelaide's west vanished in Albania on October 13.

About 8am local time, he had set out with a tourist group to trek a 16-kilometre trail between Valbona and Theth.

But friends told 9News he walked ahead of the group and has not been seen since.

Purnima Seiboth was one of the last people to hear from him.

"Knowing that he is missing and nobody knows anything about it, it's not shock, it's more just feeling lost," she said.

Seiboth recalled him telling tales of his travels and making homemade vodka with an Albanian man just hours before he set off on the trek.

"He's shown me these pictures of the homemade vodka this gentleman's brewed. It looks really strange," she said.

The trail Twiss walked was well-signposted for tourists.

His schoolmate Sev had completed it just a few months ago and said it was a trek that Twiss would have been well equipped for.

"You probably need a base level of fitness but he worked as a security guard at various pubs so he looked fit," he said.

Twiss' brother flew to Albania to join the search party with local authorities but has since returned to Adelaide.

While there's been no new leads, the Department of Foreign Affairs is continuing to work with the Albanian Police and supporting the Twiss family.

"I'm hopeful, I'm hopeful," Seiboth said.
