Call for cull grows louder as NSW shark sightings continue

At least five great white sharks continue to menace surfers on the NSW north coast after being tagged and monitored by scientists.

New data released by the Department of Primary Industries shows tagged sharks are still being found off Sharpes Beach in Ballina, debunking the theory great whites don't remain in one area for long, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Two tagged sharks were three metres long, the report said.

The data comes just weeks after the Baird Government hosted a shark summit to tackle a recent spike in shark attacks off the NSW coast.

The summit discussed using aerosol cans with the scent of decomposing shark to ward off the predators, as well as electronic repellents.
