Kids yoghurt packs urgently recalled over choking fears

Customers are being warned not to consume several popular children’s yoghurt products over choking fears.
Parmalat Australia, the company behind well-known brands including Tamar Valley and Valia yoghurt, has issued a recall of Calciyum and Woolworths 70g pouches as well as Aldi Brooklea Squishy Super Size 150g pouches, the NSW Food Authority has alerted.
The recall comes after fears the packaging could be a possible choking hazard, with the centre top of the ‘mushroom-style’ cap becoming dislodged after initial use.
“This recall is related to the packaging only, not the yoghurt itself. Some caps, when used to reseal the pouch after opening, are failing,” a statement from Calciyum said.
“We are working on replacing the faulty caps with an alternative design.”
The products are sold at various national retailers including Woolworths, Aldi, Metcash/IGA, Foodworks, Foodland, Friendly Grocer 4 Square and Farmer Jacks stores.
Customers are being advised to return the product to the store of purchase for a full refund.
“If you are concerned about your health, you should seek medical advice,” the NSW Food Authority alert said.
The recall comes two days after the company also issued a recall of Tamar Valley Dairy Kids Yoghurt 110g pouches due to faulty green-coloured caps.
