Mystery driver flees overturned car before it bursts into flames in Victoria

A mystery driver is missing after escaping an overturned car left burning in eastern Victoria yesterday.

Investigators believe a gold Ford Falcon sedan was travelling west along Princes Highway at Cabbage Tree Creek at about 4 am on Sunday morning.

The driver lost control of the car, possibly after hitting something, and the car left the road and crashed into a concrete culvert.

The sedan rolled onto its roof, but police believe the driver managed to get out of the car and leave before it caught fire.

Officers were called to the area a short time later but couldn't find the driver despite a search.

The car was not registered and didn't have any licence plates.

Police wish to speak to any witnesses or anybody who might be able to identify the driver.
