Busselton murder: Grieving mother begs for answers over disabled son's death

A grieving West Australian mother has begged for answers after her son was bludgeoned to death in his own home.

Sam Riley was killed at his Carter Street home in West Busselton on October 30.

Two weeks later, police are no closer to finding out who killed him.

"All I could think about is that he was gone, but in the last few days I'm trying to understand why it happened," Sam's mother Karen said.

"We just want some answers."

The 31-year-old required a carer to help with day-to-day living due to ongoing mental health issues, and that’s who discovered his body.

First responders thought he had been shot in the face, but later confirmed his brutal injuries were caused by a blunt object.

"It's just disbelief. How could anyone harm a gentle beautiful boy, he would never harm anyone," Karen said.

His mum said Sam has been studying horticulture at tafe.

She wants anyone with information to come forward and contact police.

Detectives set up a mobile police facility at a shopping centre in Busselton, but are still appealing for more information.
