Businesses drown in Queensland town of Gympie after Cyclone Marcia sparks flood

Businesses have been inundated in the Queensland town of Gympie, which is now under siege from floodwaters dumped by ex cyclone Marcia.
Some low lying businesses have gone under, with the town's major bridges cut along with the Bruce Highway to the north and the south.
The Mary River is expected to peak at 17 metres on Sunday morning, and the council says the community is well prepared, with floods a fairly regular occurrence in Gympie.
State Emergency Service Assistant Commissioner Peter Jeffrey said authorities were watching the flood situation closely, with other communities also at risk of floodwaters from Marcia.
He appealed to people in affected communities to stay away from floodwaters, and not to compound the job that emergency services are doing by putting themselves in danger.
"The sun is out in a number of locations and people are now starting to venture out and have a look at flood waters that are still rising," he told ABC television.
"These are not playgrounds. Stay at home just be patient."
He said the SES was starting to see more calls for help for flood assistance, but he said Gympie was well prepared for the latest flood event.
