Emergency Warning issued for bushfire north of Perth

An emergency warning has been issued for a bushfire burning out of control north of Perth in Western Australia.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued the warning shortly before midday today, after the blaze broke out in the western part of Bullsbrook in the council area of Swan.

Firefighters are on the scene battling the fire, which is currently moving in a westerly direction.

Residents in the area have been advised they are in danger and need to act immediately to survive.

Homes near Ellenbrook Road are under threat by fire, with motorists being asked to completely avoid the area.

If you are stuck in the fire zone, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises wearing long sleeves and trousers and making sure your exits are clear.

"Go to a room away from the fire front and make sure you can easily escape," WA's fire agency recommends.

"Choose a room with two exits and water such as a kitchen or laundry.

"You must shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat will kill you well before the flames reach you."
