Family woken by bus crashing into home

A Wongawallan family has been given the fright of their lives, after a bus collided with their house early this morning.

The Litchfield family said they woke to a loud bang, and ran outside to find a J&B coach had ploughed through their fence and into their front room.

"We woke up this morning to a very large bang and come running outside and saw a bus in our house," Lyn Litchfield said.

"Just checking the kids and making sure because our son's bedroom is close to it, just making sure he was okay."

The mother-of-two said she's grateful nobody was injured.

The driver is the Litchfield's neighbour. The bus was parked 50 metres from the property overnight.

Police believe the handbrake failed while the driver did his routine check around the bus at 5am. There was nothing he could do to stop the bus from rolling.

"I'm sure the insurance companies will be looking very closely at the brakes to make sure it was actually engaged as soon as the bus started and the air compressors started on the bus, it lifted and of course rolled backwards," Barry Day from Queensland Police said.

"It's very unfortunate for the driver, he's a very experienced man."

The Litchfields estimate the crash has caused damage in the thousands of dollars.
