Seven injured as bus barges through overpass in the Bronx

Seven people have been injured after a bus crashed through an overpass on a major Bronx freeway.

Emergency crews were called to the Cross Bronx Expressway, in the Bronx's Highbridge area just after 11pm local time, where they found the front of the bus dangling down to the road underneath.

Footage from the scene shows the front section of the articulated bus hanging so low over the edge, the nose is touching the road below.

Emergency crews confirmed that seven people were injured and they have all been taken to hospital for treatment.

Authorities say it was a single-vehicle crash and an investigation is underway to determine the cause.

Several entry points to the freeway and road below have been blocked by police and fire crews are working to safely remove the wreckage.
