Burnt out car found following arrest attempt in Melbourne

An allegedly stolen car has been found destroyed by fire in Campbellfield, in Melbourne’s north.

Police had attempted to arrest occupants of the allegedly stolen Holden Captiva in Maitland Close in Thomastown about 8.50am.

The alleged offenders were able to evade police and fled the scene.

Emergency services were called to Mahoneys Road in Campbellfield around 20 minutes later, following reports of a car fire.

The Holden was found at the scene engulfed in flames.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze a short time later.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
