Arrest of Rabbitohs stars Burgess and Sutton caught on video

Police video of Rabbitohs stars John Sutton and Luke Burgess being arrested and handcuffed in a gutter has been released to the media.

The embarrassing footage was broadcast hours after it emerged that the NRL is investigating the damaging allegation the Rabbitohs paid off a security guard in order to have charges against the players dropped after a brawl outside an Arizona nightclub.

"What have I done wrong? I've done nothing wrong," Burgess shouts at the officer, who was wearing a body camera.

Beside him, premiership winning captain Sutton sits with a stupefied look on his face.

"Do you want medics or anything? Have you got any other hits or anything?" the officer then asks Patrick Scruggs, the 21-year-old bouncer at the centre of the incident.

"Nah I'm okay," Mr Scruggs replies, before showing the police a bruise on the right of his forehead.

"We'll definitely take a picture," the officer says.

He then informs the sorry teammates that they are under arrest.

"What? We've done nothing wrong."

The pair are then put into the back of a police cruiser; Burgess says he doesn't having identification and then complains that his handcuffs are too tight.

Both were arrested, charged with disorderly conduct; Sutton was also charged with assault.

But the charges were dropped two weeks later, with court documents clearly showing that Mr Scruggs was "satisfied", which usually means monetary compensation.  

The club and the NRL are on a collision course over the new claims, days after an integrity investigation into an alleged cover-up by South Sydney was reopened.

Earlier, NRL chief Dave Smith defended incoming head of strategy and former Souths administrator Shane Richardson over the club's handling of the incident.
