Bureaucrat, volunteer lose honours

A former public servant and a school volunteer have been stripped of their Australian honours.

Governor-General Peter Cosgrove has terminated the appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia of Warwick Arthur Watkins and cancelled the award of the Medal of the Order of Australia to Desmond John Jarvis.

Watkins, the former chief executive of NSW's Land and Property Management Authority, received a 12-month good behaviour bond for attempting to mislead the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

The case stemmed from an ICAC investigation into the purchase of property at Currawong, Pittwater.

Watkins' 2010 honour was for "service to spatial information and natural resource management through leadership roles within a range of public sector agencies".

Jarvis served six weeks in jail in early 2014 for indecently assaulting a schoolgirl in Tasmania in January 2013.

The 2004 award for Jarvis related to "service to the community of Westbury through church, sporting and community groups".
