Strong winds predicted for South Australia's coast after dust storm

Residents of South Australia's coast have been told to brace for strong winds after gusts whipped up a thick and unexpected dust storm yesterday.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a strong wind warning for parts of the south-eastern coast this morning.

The Country Fire Service is also on alert, issuing a high fire danger rating for the Mount Lofty Ranges.

This comes after Adelaide saw a strong and unexpected dust storm.

Winds up to 70km/h lifted topsoil in the state's north and shrouded thick orange dust over Adelaide.

Landmarks such as Adelaide Oval and beaches on the coast at Glenelg were completely blanketed by the orange gust.

For the residents of Mount Lofty, it looked like Adelaide had been consumed by the dust storm.

Road weather alerts were issued with a three-car smash-up at Balaclava that left five people injured.

Meanwhile, emergency services responded to several trees down and small fires across the state and on Kangaroo Island.
