Behind the scenes at Buckingham Palace

The grandiose doors of Buckingham Palace have opened once more to the public while the Queen is away for eight weeks on her annual summer holiday.

Visitors can walk the royal corridors and stroll through the magnificent grand ball room, the site of many official state dinners and the largest room in the palace.

“This is an incredible occasion, with glittering silver gilt on the table, flower arrangements, napkins folded into Dutch bonnets, every single tiny detail makes this a beautiful, beautiful spectacle,” curator Anna Reynolds told 9NEWS.

Ms Reynolds said despite the hundreds of staff who worked at the palace and arranged the dinners and other royal events, the Queen herself oversaw every last detail.

The palace remains open for public tours while the Queen is away.
