Two teenage girls arrested after stolen car found dumped in Melbourne

Two teenage girls have been arrested after an allegedly stolen car was found dumped in Melbourne's inner-city.

Police allege a stolen blue Toyota Camry was seen travelling on Bell Street in Preston about 2am today.

Officers kept eyes on the car as it drove through Thornbury and into Brunswick East, before the occupants dumped the Toyota on Stewart Street and took off on foot.

The pair were arrested shortly after.

A 16-year-old girl was given an official caution for the theft of a motor vehicle.

And a 14-year-old girl was released pending summons to appear at a children's court at a later date.

No injuries were reported.

Police allege the Toyota was stolen from an address in Bulleen last week.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
