A 22-year-old alleged member of Sydney's notorious Brothers for Life gang will face court on firearm and drug offences.

He was arrested on Monday at Silverwater jail, where he was held for other offences, and was charged with two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm and pistol, and three counts of supplying drugs.

The man, who police say is from the Blacktown chapter of the Brothers for Life gang, has been refused bail and is due to appear in Burwood Local Court on Tuesday.

The arrest was made by Strike Force Sitella, which was formed in 2013 to investigate eight shootings in Sydney's west and southwest.

So far, the strike force has arrested 11 people and laid 78 charges, and has seized three handguns, two shotguns and drugs.
