Bronwyn Bishop criticised over Facebook cover photo choice

Under-fire Speaker Bronwyn Bishop has been heavily criticised by Facebook users over the choice of cover photo on her page.

Mrs Bishop's page features an aerial shot of Collaroy Beach and Long Reef Golf Course on the Northern Beaches, which is part of her electorate of Mackellar, as its cover photo.

The photo, which was originally uploaded in 2012, sparked a huge backlash from Facebook users yesterday, given Mrs Bishop had been placed on probation by Prime Minister Tony Abbott over her use of travel entitlements for chartered flights.

One of those included a $5200 flight on-board a private helicopter between Melbourne and Geelong to attend a Liberal Party fundraiser – all of which she has repaid since the story broke.

Dozens voiced anger in comments under the cover photo.

"Taken from a helicopter. How ironic. You're a disgrace," Mark Halliday wrote.

Labor MP Jason Clare also picked up on the photo and posted his own version to his Facebook page.

"You couldn't make this stuff up," he wrote alongside the post.

On Tuesday Mr Abbott gave a message to the beleaguered speaker.

"The message to Bronwyn is ... please no errors in the future like the sorts of errors that we have seen in the not too distant past," he said.
