Broderick replacement turns farce: Dreyfus
Shadow attorney-general Mark Dreyfus says the Turnbull government has turned the selection process for a new Sex Discrimination Commissioner into a "farce".
News Limited reported on Sunday that senior Liberals are touting former prime minster Tony Abbott's chief of staff, Peta Credlin, as a candidate to fill the role after Attorney-General George Brandis ruled out Human Rights Commission president Gillian Triggs.
"This selection process has obviously been held hostage to the disunity within Turnbull's government ... be honest with Australian women, who deserve to know the successor to Ms (Elizabeth) Broderick will be appointed on merit rather than the outcome of Liberal party infighting," Mr Dreyfus said in a statement on Sunday.
