The 11-month-old was found unresponsive at a home at Corinda, in the city's southwest, on February 1.

Residents in the area heard a commotion in the street on the day.

"The mother was sitting down with the baby and you could tell she was really distressed," one neighbour said.

"The step-father seemed really upset. He didn't even want the phone to talk to the medical people. He chucked it away, almost."

She was revived by paramedics but died at the Queensland Children's Hospital four days later.

Inala man Diquan Fisher, 18, was arrested on Saturday and will next front court in late March.

Police say he is known to the mother and the child.
