The damage bill from Brisbane's destructive supercell storm has shot up to nearly $500 million.

Nearly 69,000 insurance claims have been lodged, including more than 17,500 house and content claims and 51,000-plus vehicle claims.

Estimated insurance losses have risen to $482 million, up about $200 million from two days ago, the Insurance Council of Australia says.

Chief executive Rob Whelan says insurers are working closely with policyholders to process their claims.

A supercell storm tore through Brisbane last Thursday.
