The body of a Queensland man has been found in the Brisbane River, two days after he was last seen entering the water.

Matt Jarvis, 34, was picnicking with friends at the bottom of the Kangaroo Point cliffs when he went missing at 7.40pm on Saturday.

Friends who saw him enter the water quickly raised the alarm, prompting police to start an air, water, and land search.

Mr Jarvis' body was found in the water this morning.

"He walked off from the group to the river's edge ... they then heard a rustling in the trees and a splash and called out, 'I think that's Matt'," a police spokeswoman said.

Three of the group dived in to try and reach him but couldn’t.

The group had been socialising and drinking by the river, opposite the Brisbane CBD.

Water police boats, divers, swift water rescue boats, volunteer marine rescue and a helicopter were involved in the search.
