Brisbane man charged after allegedly setting ex-girlfriend on fire

A man has been charged after allegedly setting his ex-girlfriend alight in a northern Brisbane home this morning.

Police allege the ex-boyfriend of Sigourney Coles, 28,  broke into her residence on Aldea Circuit in Bracken Ridge and doused her in accelerant.

As Ms Coles lay asleep in bed, the man allegedly set her on fire just after 10.30am.

“Here clothes were on fire, the carpet, her bed as well,” the woman’s housemate, Phillipa Allanson, told 9NEWS.

Ms Coles suffered burns to her arms and chest and was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

“It just broke us, we couldn't even be in the house while she was getting treated by the ambulance,” Ms Allanson said.

Ms Coles is in a coma in the intensive care unit, but remains in a stable condition.

Her alleged attacker has since been charged with one count each of attempted murder and enter with intent.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
