9NEWS
A samurai sword-wielding man who was shot by police near Brisbane has escaped conviction for his crime.
Engineer Andrew Black was struck by five bullets outside his home in Ashgrove, north-west of Brisbane, after he threatened police with a knife and then the sword in December last year.
Black pleaded guilty to seriously assaulting an officer and was placed on a three year probation order.

Defence lawyer Terry O'Gorman said the court "accepted that he has demonstrated his remorse".
"He has particularly put that into effect by paying compensation to the police, which was paid today," he said.
