Brisbane hospital guard charged over elderly patient's death
A Brisbane hospital security guard has been granted bail after being charged with manslaughter over the death of an elderly patient.
Shane Kilgariff, 50, faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court today, charged over the 81-year-old man's death on May 15.
The court heard the elderly man was being treated at Brisbane's Prince Charles Hospital on April 30 when he took hold of a fire hose and "was using the fire hose within the ward".
Mr Kilgariff then allegedly tackled the patient to the ground.
The man was moved to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, where he died about two weeks later.
Mr Kilgariff will be required to return to court on September 5, and Queensland Health has launched an investigation into the incident.
The court heard Mr Kilgariff was still employed at the hospital in an administrative role.
