Brisbane commuters travel for free again

Brisbane commuters will travel for free on the city's buses once again as industrial action rolls into its second consecutive day.

Rail, Tram and Bus Union drivers refused to collect fares on Wednesday, and will continue to do so today and until the end of the working week.

It is in response to an ongoing dispute with Brisbane City Council over pay, safety and rostering issues.

Unionised drivers turned off or covered their GoCard machines on Wednesday and refused to accept payments from commuters for their travel.

RTBU spokesman Tom Brown told AAP the response from members had been amazing.

"It's the sort of action that they take to because they continue their service to the public, which they consider very important," he said.

"But it still continues to send the message to the city council that we mean business and we want these issues resolved."

This is the fourth consecutive week drivers have taken industrial action.
