Bridge to Bridge skier mourned

The Bridge to Bridge Classic water skiing event went ahead today with crowds honouring Ian Baker – a father-of-four who died during yesterday’s event in Sydney’s northwest.

Mr Baker was killed when he was thrown from a flipping boat into the Hawkesbury river.

The incident came a year after world champion water skier Sarah Teelow died due to head injuries after a fall, while travelling more than 100km/h.

Family and friends of Ms Teelow also gathered at the crash site today to cast roses on the water as a tribute to their loved one.

"Thinking about what she would be saying would be 'Oh my god all that for me’,” Sarah’s mother Tania Teelow said.

Water skiing's governing body Ski Racing Australia has intensified its review into the sport following this weekend’s accident.

“We're constantly looking for improvements and safety," Ski Racing Australia vice chairman Paul Robertson said.
