Accused Sydney bridge climber fronts court

A man who allegedly scaled the Sydney Harbour Bridge and sat near its peak causing major traffic jams during morning peak hour wants his bail changed so he can travel to Nepal.

Adrian Karibian, 41, was clutching a silver bible when he appeared briefly at Downing Centre Local Court on Friday, three weeks after he allegedly climbed the bridge and spent almost two hours sitting under the top of its arch.

He successfully adjourned his matter until August 5, with the court hearing he had plans to depart for Nepal shortly and needed to discuss his travel with a lawyer before returning to court.

Traffic was brought to a standstill for hours during the bridge climbing incident on June 17.

Karibian was taken to hospital afterwards for assessment and was in early July charged with entering enclosed lands and climbing on a bridge.

He has been on bail since being charged, and it's expected he will ask the court to vary his conditions and allow him to travel to Nepal, when he reappears next month.
