Brett Stewart allegedly arrested

Manly NRL star Brett Stewart is ruing an error of judgement after being charged with drink-driving on Monday morning.

Stewart failed a random breath test after he was pulled over on Pittwater Rd at Warriewood on Sydney northern beaches at around 10am while on his way to meet friends.

After being taken to Mona Vale Police Station, he allegedly recorded a low-range blood alcohol level of 0.079.

"I had a few drinks last night. I went home, went to bed and got up this morning. I thought I was fine and headed off for some breakfast. I got pulled over and I blew low range," Stewart told News Corp as he left the police station.

"I'm really disappointed this has happened. I had no idea I was over the limit.

"There's no way I would have got behind the wheel if I thought there was a problem."

According to the report, Stewart had been drinking with friends in Manly on Easter Sunday night and caught a cab home around 1am.

He will face Manly Local Court on May 7.

Stewart's situation appears similar to that of Newcastle NRL star Willie Mason earlier this year.

Mason was caught drink-driving on his way to training the morning after enjoying Australia Day celebrations.

Mason was disqualified from driving for six months and fined $900 after being found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.09.

Manly have informed the NRL integrity unit of the Stewart incident.
