Brent ‘Boomer’ Harvey set to break historic AFL record

North Melbourne’s Brent ‘Boomer’ Harvey will tonight play his 427th match of Australian rules football, smashing the previous record held by Hawthorn legend Michael Tuck.

Playing 426 games over his 20-year career, Hawthorn’s Michael Tuck held the record for the most AFL games played.

Mr Tuck’s record will tonight be broken by North Melbourne’s Brent Harvey.

“It’s disappointing for myself that Boomer’s played more than me,” Mr Tuck told 9NEWS earlier today.

The 63-year-old footy legend said he would watch tonight’s game at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium from the comfort of his lounge room.

Mr Tuck ended his mammoth career of football with Hawthorn in 1991. He led the Hawks to seven premiership wins.

North Melbourne coach Anthony Stevens said new record holder ‘Boomer’ has shown promise since being drafted in 1995.  

“Straight up… you could see he had something special,” Mr Stevens said.

Boomer has enjoyed celebrated career in AFL, kicking 511 goals for the Kangaroos and winning five best and fairest medals.

North Melbourne will tonight clash with St Kilda for what is expected to be a “blockbuster” match.

40,000 are expected to flood through the gates of Etihad Stadium.

Boomer merchandise is reportedly selling “like hotcakes” at the stadium.
