Brazen thief caught on camera snatching $150,000 horde of diamond rings

Security cameras have captured the moment a daring thief made off with more than $100,000 worth of diamond engagement rings from a high-end Sydney jewellery shop.

The thief is still on the run after robbing the Sussex Street shop today and police believe the heist was almost certainly planned.

CCTV shows the man, dressed in dark clothing, a baseball cap and white sneakers, casually wander up to the shop and peer through the window.

Inside the jewellery store he was served by unsuspecting staff who showed him several expensive diamond rings before he left.

Minutes later, the thief returned assaulted a shop assistant and gathered up a pile of jewellery.

Security cameras captured him them fleeing the scene – in possession of more than $100,000 worth of diamond jewellery.

Police believe the brazen thief picked the perfect opportunity to make his escape, easily blending into the teeming crowds of shoppers wandering through Chinatown during the mid-afternoon rush.
