Brandis takes arts to dark ages: Labor

Federal Labor has accused George Brandis of dragging the arts community back to the dark ages by funnelling money into a personal grants fiefdom.

Almost $105 million will be cut from the Australia Council's annual budget and used for an excellence in arts program within the Attorney-General's department.

"Having built a grand new private library in his office, Senator Brandis is now intent on building a grand new private arts gallery to dole out money according to his own personal whims and wishes," opposition arts spokesman Mark Dreyfus said on Wednesday.
