Video shows moment missing six-year-old Beechworth boy was found by rescuers

A six-year-old boy missing overnight in rural Victoria has been reunited with his relieved parents.

Video showed the moment Ben Dean, who has Down syndrome, was found by two volunteer rescuers on McFeeters Road in Beechworth this morning.

A rescuer embraced the boy and comforted him with a jacket to warm him after a cold night alone.

Ben’s parents reported him missing from their Chiltern Road property in Beechworth about 5pm last night, sparking a search involving police, SES and CFA crews.

An overnight search of the family's 90-acre rural property - which is surrounded by dense bushland - had failed to find him.

Local police, SES and CFA members were assisted by the police air wing, dog squad and search and rescue group.

The Dean family today said they were “looking forward” to taking their little boy home.

“Ben is safe and aside from losing his new boots and being a little cold, he is none the worse for his ordeal,” Charles and Nadia Dean said in a statement.

The family thanked the local community and emergency services for their “overwhelming” support during the overnight search.

“We cannot thank you enough,” the Deans said.
