West Australian Premier Colin Barnett has urged Tony Abbott to press ahead with the carbon tax abolition and not compromise with Clive Palmer.

Mr Palmer, whose party will have three crucial Senate votes from July 1, has put a raft of conditions on his support for repealing the carbon tax.

The legislation is set to be put to a vote in July.

"He is a volatile individual and I fear for Australian government if he is going to be given a prime place on major policy issues," Mr Barnett said of the Palmer United Party leader.

"If I were in (Tony Abbott's) position I would be simply bowling in the legislation to abolish the carbon tax and force Clive to vote one way or the other."
