Bourke Street victims to share Premier Cup’s charity event proceeds with sick kids

The victims of the Bourke Street tragedy will share proceeds from the Premier’s Cup charity golf event with the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

“Our state is grieving with so many families affected by the tragic events on Bourke Street. It’s only right that a share of today’s proceeds gives them the support they need,” Premier Daniel Andrews said today.

“It’s an important thing to thank them [hospital staff]… The Bourke Street fund is just short of $1 million dollars and it’s inspiring to see those small donations from ordinary, hard-working Victorians.”

Meanwhile, Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said hundreds of touching floral tributes near the scene of the deadly attack will be collected tomorrow, while other items including toys and photographed will be preserved.

“With the organic material, we will mulch that and it will go in the gardens near Parliament House near the Victims of Crime memorial,” he said.

Mr Doyle said plans for a final memorial are yet to be decided, and welcomed public suggestions.

A board of three people will govern the Bourke Street fund for the victim’s families.

The Premier’s Cup will be played at the Royal Melbourne Golf course today and will feature celebrities and corporate big-wigs.

They will tee off to raise more than $200,000 for charity.

Half of the funds will go to the Bourke Street victims, coupled with $100,000 already pledged from the Victorian government.
