Human bones, believed to be a foot and ankle, have been found during the renovation of a block of units in North Bondi.

A construction worker made the discovery while clearing out rubbish from a garage.

The small collection of bones were found inside a cavity underneath the entry stairwell of the 100-year old property.

The 23-year-old alerted his colleagues inside and called Triple-Zero.

"I was clearing out rubbish and then came across this hand or foot — it was hard to know what it was, but it looked like it was from a human," he told the ABC.

“It was a foot…a f..ing foot”, another builder told the Australian.

“You can tell – a foot is very different from a hand”, he said.

Police arrived at the Ramsgate Avenue building at about 10.15am yesterday, and have taken the bones away for forensic examination.

They are treating the discovery as suspicious.
