Police detonate suspicious device at Melbourne home

A device that sparked a scare in suburban Melbourne has been detonated and deemed safe by police.
The device was found on Eucalyptus Road at Eltham about 5am today and by mid-morning Victoria Police said the situation was under control.

"Officers safely detonated it and there is no threat to the community and police remain on scene," a spokeswoman said.
The SES earlier prepared sandbags to help police with the operation.
