Possible suspect device found in Gratton Steet bus stop

A suspected hand grenade found outside the Royal Melbourne Hospital is now believed to be a toy.

Police confirmed they were in Parkville following reports of a "possible suspect device" on Grattan Street just after 4pm and conducted a safety check.

Royal Melbourne Hospital staff were asked to keep people inside as a precaution.

After initial reports the device was a hand grenade, a spokesperson from the Metro Fire Brigade later confirmed the device to be a toy.

There will be traffic delays outbound on Flemington Road.

The area is now safe and open to the public.
