UPDATE: Body found in Sydney park was burned, police say
A body has been found in a park in Picnic Point, Sydney. 9NEWS
The body found in a Sydney nature reserve this morning had been "subjected to fire", police have confirmed.
Bankstown Council workers discovered the body at 5.05am as they unlocked the gate to Lambeth Reserve in Picnic Point.
One local resident, who did not give her name, told Channel 9 she heard a "loud bang" between 4.30-4.50am.
Police are treating the death as a homicide.
He said the burns would make it difficult to identify the body, but they hoped to establish more details this afternoon.
"We're reaching out to the community now...for anybody with information," he said.
He said the burns appeared to have been inflicted post-mortem.
